Rotarian Bill Pollard shares his EREY story

When I became president of the Rotary Club of Churchland-Portsmouth, Virginia, USA, I was mentored by Past District Governor Mike Moreland. Mike showed me that through Rotary and The Rotary Foundation, we can change the world. When he died of cancer in 2008, my club honored his memory by becoming a 100% Paul Harris Fellow Club.
As district governor, it was easy to continue to promote the Foundation. I shared with our clubs what their support could accomplish, and during my year, our district was ranked 20th in the world in per capita giving and 38th in total Foundation giving. We obtained a $300,000 Health, Hunger and Humanity Grant to build bridges in Zambia and a $189,000 Matching Grant to provide heart surgeries to children in Guatemala.
These accomplishments were possible because of our members' support. My job was easy: to say thank you.
